News from ODE

The recent YTP Regional Trainings in Pendleton, Portland, Salem, Coos Bay, and Lane County had a 90 minute session that focused on materials I provided regarding the Oregon Diploma, Oregon's new Modified Diploma, Oregon's new Extended Diploma, and the Alternative Certificate. The Power Point Presentation I provided is attached below.

Also in the handbook provided were sections on IDEIA's 2004 Transition Requirements and information about Graduation, Dropout, Post School Outcomes and More. All of these materials are available at the Transition Community Network Website:

http://www.tcntransition.org/

Or more specifically at: http://www.tcntransition.org/districtResources.php (see Reference Materials)

Also there has been some late, breaking news relevant to the time lines on the Modified Diploma and the students impacted! On December 4, 2009, the State Board of Education voted to amend the OAR 581-022-1134 on Modified Diplomas. You will notice that Juniors and Seniors can now graduate with a modified diploma based on the school district criteria, but the sophomores must use the State Criteria. The amended OAR is attached below. These OAR amendments alter the content of my attached Power Point with regards to the timing of who must follow the State Standards for Modified Diplomas.
